The Gallery Director will manage all aspects of a single location of a National Geographic | Fine Art Galleries retail operation, including the following responsibilities.

  • Represent the National Geographic brand
  • Manage business planning, sales forecasting, scheduling and profitability
  • Recruit, train, supervise and appraise gallery team members
  • Formulate and successfully execute event and promotional marketing concepts

 Sales Generation:

  • Achieves monthly, quarterly and annual gallery revenue targets
  • Sets individual daily/weekly/monthly sales targets for all Fine Art Consultants
  • Continuously motivates gallery staff to meet assigned productivity and revenue targets.
  • Conduct performance appraisals to assess training needs and build career paths 
  • Conducts trainings on a continuous rotation to enhance product knowledge and sales techniques in order to maximize sell-thru.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of the National Geographic brand and the gallery collection; ensures selling staff is fluent in all aspects of product knowledge
  • Demonstrates sales leadership for staff by playing an active role on the selling floor
  • Ensure high levels of guest satisfaction through excellent service
  • Manages annual marketing budget – formulates marketing strategies, works closely with corporate-based marketing teams to drive approved concepts through to completion.  
  • Formulates promotion & event ideas for corporate management review; executes approved initiatives. 
  • Works closely with corporate-based public relations team to execute in-store press and brand events 


  • Schedules Fine Art Consultants to maintain suitable floor coverage while maintaining payroll budgets as a percentage of sales
  • Communicates inventory needs (including artwork not displayed) to support the sales target
  • Monitors the movement of all inventory and ensures that the company adheres to all Shipping/Receiving policies and procedures on behalf of the consumer as their advocate
  • Ensures gallery, presentation and organization to support the visual merchandising standards of the collection
  • Builds, initiates and maintains effective and continual communication with corporate management, other NGFA Galleries and members of corporate office
  • Controls gallery expenses and maintains budgets
  • Exhibits proficiency in computer programs used by the Company including: Word, Excel and POS system

Strengths For Success:

  • Prior Fine Art Gallery management experience required
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate Fine Art Consultants
  • Ability to create loyalty to the brand and promote sell-through
  • Strong understanding of and connections within the gallery’s market
  • Ability to define strategies for maximizing sales and profits within the gallery
  • Ability to develop and execute viable marketing and event concept
  • Strong issue resolution skills
  • Strong communication skills with staff, customers, and corporate office
  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Strong negotiation skills (with vendors, tour operators, etc.)


  • Minimum of 5 years previous gallery/boutique/luxury management experience encompassing all of the essential job functions listed above
  • Previous experience working in a fine art retail environment required
  • Demonstrated ability to increase sales and build revenue and profitability
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute marketing, promotional and event strategies
  • Demonstrated experience with training, developing and retaining sales staff
  • Knowledge of and skill in using Microsoft Office 365 Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and OneDrive
  • Ability to adeptly manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with customers, co-workers, and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner
